Rafat Damseh
Dr. Damseh joined the CIT at UAEU in September 2021, as an assistant professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Soft. Engineering. Prior to joining UAEU, Dr. Damseh was leading the machine learning projects at the Computational Clinical Neuroimaging Group in the MGH Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Damseh received his PhD in Biomedical/Computer Engineering from Polytechnique Montreal.
Dr. Damseh’s research focuses on the applications of AI/ML to medical image computing. He developed techniques for anatomical/ biophysical modeling of brain neurovascular structures acquired with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and microscopic optical imaging. Moreover, Dr. Damseh developed algorithms to help in computer-aided diagnostics of neurovascular diseases, e.g., stroke. His research group at UAEU works on developing advanced multi-modal deep learning techniques for medical image computing and automated diagnostics. Dr. Damseh developed many open-source tools such as VascGraph, VirtualMRI, and AngioPulse, and they have been used by notable institutions including Harvard Medical School and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He authored and co-authored more than 25 articles in top-ranked journals and conference proceedings, such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, and Neuroinformatics.
