Fisseha Mekuria

Dr. Fisseha Mekuria, has a PhD from Linköping University (LiTH.se) in Sweden, in Wireless Communications & Signal Processing. He has over 25 years of academic research, education and industrial research experience in digital networks and mobile computing. He then joined Ericsson Mobile Communications R&D Lab in Lund, Sweden as a senior research engineer, during which time he developed over 12 US & European (EPO) patents in the areas of signal processing, wireless computing platforms, and networking for wireless communications. Dr. Mekuria is the recipient of the Google research award on Mobile Computing and the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF´-2020) Award for innovation excellence on Smart Spectrum Technologies and digital transformation using future wireless networks. He recently left his position as a Chief Research Scientist, at the CSIR to join the Malmö University Faculty of Technology and Society, where he will develop applications of emerging digital technologies for the good of humanity and sustainable digital business models. At CSIR he was leading a group of multi-national researchers in advanced 5G wireless technologies, smart spectrum-based affordable networks, and advanced Frugal 5G networks, including the development of AI applications for 5G advanced testbed. Dr. Mekuria is also involved with postgraduate research at Malmö University and as Adj. Prof. at the Faculty of electrical and electronics engineering science (EEES) at the University of Johannesburg, & on the sustainable digital business model and innovation systems development at Wits Business School, WBS, the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
